Hello!
Welcome to the Quiñones Flute Studio-- an active and exciting group of flute students! I am delighted that you are interested in studying the flute. I love to watch students grow as musicians while they discover how fun and life-enriching music can be, and I look forward to forming a positive teaching experience with you.
In order to provide a positive learning environment, and to maintain a professional flute studio, the policies of flute lessons are as follows:
PAYMENT POLICY Payments will be required in advance for the entire month's scheduled lessons. This fee will be due at the first week's lesson of that month. Invoices will be given at the last lesson of every month to ensure prompt payment for the following month. Statements will have lesson times, credits and upcoming studio events listed on the invoice. Payments can be made by cash or cheque.
CANCELLATIONS
Lessons must be cancelled within 24 hours of lesson time for make-ups to be given; otherwise the lesson is forfeited. This includes any lessons missed because of an illness or a forgotten lesson.
When a student makes a lesson cancellation before the 24 hour notice, I will first try to fit in a make-up lesson, and secondly offer a credit. No credits or make-up lessons will be offered if a student cancels a rescheduled make-up lesson. If I am unable to teach a lesson on the regular assigned lesson date I will schedule a make-up lesson or a credit will be issued that can be applied toward the following month’s invoice. Since I run a tight teaching schedule, I do not make up for lost time if you are late.
AT YOUR FLUTE LESSON
What you need to bring can depend on the week, but you should remember to bring with you to all your lessons:
Flute in working order
Theory book (if appropriate to your lesson)
Etude book as assigned
Current Solo and/or solo book
Assignment notebook (any a spiral notebook will do)
An attitude that is willing to learn!
PRACTICE
I expect my students to work hard and to be willing to make progress through daily assigned practice. Weekly assignments will be given in your notebook and assigned theory homework (if theory is being given) is encouraged to be done before the next lesson. I expect students to realise the high level of commitment and patience that learning a new instrument will bring! I also realise that for some pupils, flute is a hobby and a way to relax after a stressful day at work or school. Flute lessons will be tailored to what you would like to experience. Practice times will vary on the student’s level and will be discussed at lessons.
MASTERCLASSES AND EVENTS
Throughout the year the Quiñones Flute Studio or other flute organizations in the area put on many events for you to attend. Of course, I realize that the attendance of these events are dependent on your schedule, but events outside the lesson time inspire and motivate my pupils to be active musicians and I highly encourage participation.
PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES
There will be many opportunities for you to perform if you feel like that is something that interests you. The Quiñones Flute studio generally aims to have at least one studio recital a year in a meeting hall or church in the York area. More details become available when the recital is near, usually about 2 months before the recital.
Please feel free to call with questions on 07910 371519, or if you prefer, you can email me at jqflutist@yahoo.com . I look forward to meeting you!
Sincerely,
Jessica Quiñones
